Kuwait biggest source of FDI to the Kingdom
Kuwait was the biggest contributor of FDI inflows to the Kingdom last year with over BD 3.1 billion in investments. The GCC countries remained the biggest source of FDI to the Kingdom, according to the statistics released as part of the findings of Foreign Investment Survey carried out by the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA).
The survey for the financial year 2018 was conducted by IGA in collaboration with the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) and the Economic Development Board (EDB). “The survey measured the volume of the foreign investment of key entities in various economic sectors to provide updated statistical data of the volume and flows of these investments in an initiative that aims at assisting decision-makers to set appropriate policies to attract more investments to contribute in advancing development wheel witnessed by the Kingdom,” the iGA stated, in a statement issued.
Initial statistics indicated an increase of 5.5 percent in the volume of Foreign Direct Investment in the Kingdom during last year in comparison to 2017 with the total value exceeding BD11bn.
“The growth reflects Bahrain’s efforts in attracting more foreign investment and increasing capital flows. “The report indicated that the volume of the direct foreign investment flow to Bahrain during the last financial year reached nearly BD570 million in the top two sectors which are banking and manufacturing,” the iGA added.
