Five-year jail for drug smuggler
An Asian man nabbed while attempting to smuggle 960 narcotic pills into the country, told customs officials that they were meant for medical purposes, the High Criminal Court heard. The defendant hid the pills among folded clothes in his luggage, but an X-ray inspection would uncover them.
“He was nervous once he entered the airport. We directly stopped him and we put the luggage inside the X-ray machine,” the customs officer, who helped in capturing him, told prosecutors. “There was a suspicious plastic bag filled with carbon papers. When we removed the papers, there was another plastic bag and the pills were inside it.
“He directly told us that they were prescribed to him by a doctor of his country because he was under treatment. But then we discovered that it was a lie,” he added.
