Jail term cut for man who burnt police vehicle
The Supreme Criminal Court of Appeal yesterday reduced the jail term previously issued against a defendant who was found guilty of burning a police patrol vehicle in Sanad, from 15 years to 10 years.
The defendant was earlier sentenced along with two accomplices by the Fourth High Criminal Court to 15 years and to collectively pay BD17,172 in compensation. The details of the case showed that the incident took place on August 14, 2015, near Al Ghadeer Mosque in Sanad, while the policemen were securing the worshippers performing Friday prayers inside the mosque. Two of the defendants approached the vehicle and attacked it using Molotov cocktails.
Flames engulfed the vehicle and destroyed it completely, according to Prosecutors. The investigations launched by the Criminal Investigation Department in the Interior Ministry led to the defendants, who were arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution. The third defendant told the prosecutors that he and the other two defendants had agreed on carrying out the attack, and co-ordinated using a mobile phone application.
