Bahrain attends ministerial meeting on water, agriculture

Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Essam Khalaf, participated in the first joint ministerial meeting of Arab water and agriculture ministers kicked off yesterday at the Arab League Headquarters, Cairo. 

The meeting complements the consultations, held by governments of members of the Arab League, international and regional partners, as well as the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), on the need to embrace uniform and comprehensive policies target all aspects of water and food security, in addition to broadening the span of relevant innovative investments for achieving the sustainable development goals.

The Works Minister said Bahrain has taken serious steps towards achieving the goals of sustainable development and food security, in addition to promoting the agricultural sector to contribute to the gross domestic product. 

He added Bahrain’s participation in the meeting reflects its leadership’s interest in boosting co-operation with Arab and friendly countries to serve nation’s interests, noting its keenness to improve agricultural production by the implementation of a range of programmes and benefiting from international expertise.
