Financial sector attracting more Bahraini women, survey reveals

A  2.2 percent increase has been noted in the number of Bahraini women working in the financial sector last year compared to 2017. The annual survey by the Central Bank of Bahrain revealed a positive trend in the number of women working in the financial sector.

As of now, there are 3,621 jobs held by Bahraini women in the financial sector compared to 3,542 at the end of 2017, according to the survey. Additionally, the proportion of Bahraini women holding managerial positions stood at 33.2pc in the financial sector last year, which is an increase from 32.2pc at the end of 2017.

The number of Bahrainis (male and female) holding senior management positions (including CEOs, executives, directors, and assistant directors) reached 3,156 at the end of 2018. The number of Bahrainis holding supervisory positions was 1,839 in the same year. The number of Bahraini board members at financial institutions reached 409 at the end of 2018 (47pc of the total), of which 377 were Bahraini men and 32 Bahraini women.  

The total number of employees in the financial sector in 2018 amounted to 14,148 employees compared to 14,093 at the end of 2017, an increase of 55 jobs, according to the annual survey conducted by the Central Bank of Bahrain.
