Final appeals rejected in ‘Imam Army’ case

The Court of Cassation yesterday rejected the final appeal granted to four defendants, who were earlier sentenced to life in prison and 15 years of imprisonment in Jaish Al Imam (Imam Army) case.

This was confirmed yesterday by Terror Crime Prosecution Chief Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadi. Two of the defendants were sentenced in 2013 to life while their two co-defendants were given 15 years behind bars each.

According to court files, the cell, Imam Army, planned to attack several vital sites around the Kingdom, including Interior Ministry, Bahrain International Airport, Bahrain International Circuit, the US Navy base in Juffair, Bahrain Defence Force, Shaikh Isa Air Base, and others.

The defendants also include a lawyer, a businessman and a policeman. The terror cell was reportedly waiting for instructions from Iran for a “zero hour” to carry out massive attacks in Bahrain using light and medium weapons and homemade explosives and ammunition.
