Five get three years in jail for placing fake bomb in Jid Ali
Five Bahraini men have been sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Fourth High Criminal Court for placing a fake bomb on a vital commercial road in Isa Town.
Court files mentioned that the four of the defendants participated in an illegal gathering in Jid Ali area as the instructions of the fifth defendant, who’s abroad as he is wanted in several other criminal cases.
The four men placed a device that looks similar to explosive devices, with the aim of spreading fear and terror among citizens and residents. As instructed by the fifth defendant, different roles were given to the four defendants.
While one was responsible for surveilling the area, others were tasked to place the object near a ma’atam in the area. As shown in the court, the object was a black cooling cylinder of an air conditioner with pipes and wires duct-taped to it, making it look like an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
When notified, police rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area, while the explosive disposal unit handled the object, which was later proven to be a fake bomb.
