Trio accused of not rescuing woman who attempted suicide, wins appeal
Three defendants, including a female doctor, who were charged with not rescuing a woman who attempted to commit suicide, were yesterday acquitted by the Third High Criminal (Appeals) Court. The details of the case show that the incident occurred in an apartment in Juffair back in August 2013.
It initially involved two of the defendants, a Bahraini and an Asian national, who was at the apartment along with a Chinese female friend, who jumped out of the window in an attempt to kill herself. According to defendants, they were shocked when the woman stood on the edge of the window and tried to jump to the ground floor.
The woman fell on the road and they said that they rushed downstairs, where they saw the woman lying in a pool of her own blood, but she was still alive. The men then took the woman to a private hospital, which refused to admit her. Both took her to another private hospital in Manama, where the third defendant, the female doctor, worked.
The third defendant examined the woman but refused to treat her, as she feared legal accountability because she doubted that a criminal act was behind the accident.
The doctor advised the men to take the injured woman to Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC). The men told the prosecutors that they feared legal accountability, so they drove to the woman’s house and left her bleeding on the doorsteps.
