Drug smuggler gets 15 years imprisonment
An Asian man who was nabbed while trying to smuggle half kilo hashish into the Kingdom, told prosecutors that he had bought the drugs in his country as it was much cheaper there. The defendant was arrested at Bahrain International Airport last year upon his arrival from his country. He hid 32 pieces of hashish, collectively weighing 500 grammes, in different parts of his luggage.
During the interrogation, he said he had bought the hashish for BD40 from his country. The investigations of the Anti-Narcotics Department within the Interior Ministry revealed that the defendant was a member of a network of Asian drugs smugglers, which uses similar methods to smuggle drugs with the intention of selling in the Kingdom.
Medical examination and laboratory tests of the man’s blood and urine proved that he had consumed hashish. He was accused by the Public Prosecution on October 19, 2019, of abusing narcotics and drug peddling.
The Prosecution referred the case to Fourth High Criminal Court, which sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment, to pay a fine of BD5,000 and permanent deportation after he completes his sentence.
