Restaurant owner loses appeal in BD25,000 compensation case

A restaurant owner, who illegally built an extension for his restaurant worth more than BD22, 000, lost a lawsuit he filed against the landlord demanding compensation.

This was revealed by the landlord’s lawyer Mohammed Al Thawadi, who explained that the plaintiff has rented three shops that his client owns, back in 2012 and opened a restaurant. In 2015, the plaintiff requested to rent a piece of land the same landlord owned, adjacent to the restaurant.

The landlord agreed to the man’s request and rented the land to him, as per the specifications mentioned in the leasing contract. The plaintiff then built an extension for his restaurant on the land and when he applied for power and water connection with the Electricity and Water Authority, his request was rejected because he didn’t obtain the necessary permits to construct the building.

The plaintiff then filed a lawsuit against the landlord demanding him to pay BD25,000 as compensation for the losses he bore after constructing the building.
