Kingdom calls for regional peace at UN meeting

The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Jamal Faris Al Rowaie, participated in the Security Council open debate on the situation in the Middle East. 

He affirmed that the international community must play a stronger role through implementing the resolutions that aim to establish peace and security in the Middle East and reach political include that include protecting the affected countries and ending interference in the internal affairs of states.

The Permanent Representative stressed that achieving a just and lasting peace in the region requires finding a solution to the Palestinian issue and granting the Palestinian people their legitimate right of establishing their independent state on the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the Arab Peace Initiative 2002, the Two-State Solution and other relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

On the Yemeni crisis, the Ambassador noted Bahrain’s commitment as a part of the Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  He stressed the need of reaching a solution that establishes peace and development in Yemen in line with the Gulf Initiative and its Executive Mechanisms, the outcomes of the National Dialogue and the relative SC resolutions, particularly Res. 2216 (2015), to end all foreign interventions in Yemen.
