CSB: Ramadan working hours

The official working hours of employees during the Holy Month of Ramadan will be from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, a Civil Service Bureau (CSB) statement has said. The move follows the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Article (19) of the Civil Service Law.

Working hours during the Holy Month are reduced to 30 hours for employees working 36 hours per week, said Shaikh Khalid bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Acting President of the Civil Service Bureau (CSB). For employees working on extended hours, official duty hours will be 33 hours and will be half for those working on 40 hours per week system, from 8:00 am to 2:45 pm (Sunday to Wednesday) and from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on Thursday. Special working hours approved by the Civil Service Bureau for some government entities shall be reduced by the same rate.

The competent authority shall determine the times of commencement and end of the daily working hours according to the need of work and following the specific regulations and civil service policies. “This is applicable for employees in government bodies and institutions belonging to the civil service who work 36 or 40 hours a week,” the statement said. On the flexural system, CSB said the maximum number of flexible hours for staff working shall not exceed one hour per day in all normal, long and special working hours, the statement said.

“Therefore, employees shall complete the flexible hours after completion of the basic hours determined to them,” the statement added. Shaikh Khalid bin Ebrahim said that employees whose jobs require working over the reduced working hours are compensated for overtime according to the overtime policy. Compensation will be in the form of payment for overtime hours, or by providing rest hours equivalent to overtime working hours based on the decision of the government entity as well as the availability of budget.
