Man jailed for causing permanent disability to his girlfriend’s father

The First High Criminal Court yesterday found a Bahraini man guilty of assault after he caused severe injuries to his girlfriend’s father while trying to escape from him. The court sentenced the 20-year-old to three years of imprisonment.   The incident that led to the case occurred in Sanabis Village in the Capital Governorate.

Court files showed that the victim was informed at around 6 am on the day of the incident by his daughter that her 16-year-old sister had left the house at 3 am and haven’t returned home yet. The father waited for his daughter outside the house and saw her riding in a car with a strange man, the defendant, according to prosecutors.

The duo attempted to escape once they saw the angry father waiting for them, they added. “The father grabbed on the bonnet of the car, in an attempt to stop them from escaping, but the defendant reversed his vehicle quickly then drove off.”

The 54-year-old father lost his balance because of the sudden and fast movement of the car. He fell off the car, banging his head hard on the asphalt, while the two drove away. The man was immediately rushed to Salmaniya Medical Complex, where he remained at the Intensive Care Unit as he suffered a broken skull and internal hemorrhage.
