Rioters sentence confirmed
The High Criminal Court of Appeal yesterday upheld a five-year imprisonment sentence issued last year against two for burning a car while attacking police using Molotov cocktails.
The two men are among a group of nine who were convicted of participating in an illegal gathering and rioting. The group, court file say, participated in an illegal gathering of more than 20 near a roundabout on Budaiya Highway for committing crimes and hindering public order.
The group hid Molotov cocktails in a farm near the roundabout and attacked a riot police patrol vehicle stationed on the main road, after blocking the road using palm tree trunks. While hurling the flaming bottles on the police car, they hit a car that was passing by, which was destroyed completely.
