For a Ramadan without waste
Cleaning companies were placed on high alert in Bahrain in a bid to keep the Kingdom clean during the Holy Month of Ramadan, according to work ministry officials. Waste management companies were ordered to double their efforts and preparations, especially for food distribution places such as mosques.
“We need to double our cleaning efforts, as changes in work timings, habits as well as food distribution practices during Ramadan could result in the production of a higher amount of food waste,” said Nabil Mohammed Abu El Fath, Undersecretary Municipalities Affairs. The decisions were taken during a recent meeting held by the Ministry of works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning with cleaning company representatives.
“Increased attention may be required in many places including places of food distribution such as mosques,” El Fath told the cleaning companies. He also praised their efforts and successful cooperation among the two companies over the years. The meeting was attended by Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Assistant Undersecretary for Joint Municipal Services Wael Al Mubarak, and Bob Doig, a waste management adviser with the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning and Estidama - a waste management center which comes under the Ministry the Municipal Affairs.
