LuLu opens in Muharraq

The 171st Hypermarket of the LuLu Group was inaugurated yesterday in Muharraq Central by Deputy Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. The opening followed the official inauguration of the newly revamped Muharraq Central Market by HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister of Bahrain.

The new LuLu Hypermarket, globally 171st and 8th in Bahrain, spans around 90,000 sq. feet in area. Speaking to Tribune, Yousif Ali M.A, the Chairman and Managing Director of LuLu Group said, “Our motto is to provide people with good service and good quality.” “We offer products that are sugar-free, gluten-free, and organic. We also have webstores that are currently active.

“We evolve according to the international market standards,” Yousif Ali told Tribune.  On Bahrainisation, the LuLu Group Chairman said the new branch employs 1,200 Bahrainis including 450 females.  “There are plans to employ another 500 Bahrainis within the next year,” revealed Yousif Ali adding: “We will continue to support Bahranisation plan by employing more Bahrainis.”  

With eight hypermarkets and one mall, the total investment of the LuLu group in Bahrain has exceeded BD130 million with plans of further expansion elevating the total investment. “Five years ago, I stated that I will invest BD100 million in Bahrain, now our current investment has crossed BD130 million,” Yousif Ali told Tribune. Looking ahead, the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi-based LuLu Group further revealed that the group plans to open hypermarkets in the upcoming months.  “We plan to open three more hypermarkets in eight to 10 months,” he said.  

The outlet, Yousif Ali said, will highlight the local produce of Bahrain as well as support the cottage industry by promoting products made by Bahrainis. The new LuLu outlet is on the first floor of the Muharraq Central Market which underwent a BD1.45 million renovation.  

The LuLu brand is expected to revitalise this historic trading hub which will provide a platform for small and medium traders (SMEs) to develop their business. LuLu is on an expansion drive and is all set to open another 32 Hypermarkets and Shopping Malls in GCC, Far East and India by 2020.
