Our Ramadan Majlis helps strengthen unity
One of the most beautiful traditions of Bahraini society is the Ramadan Majlis. After prayers, and in keeping with the mood for introspection, people gather at Majlis to discuss current affairs, news and intellectual matters. What makes these Majlis important is that they are an intellectual level ground, where everybody is equal and can openly talk and share ideas.
It is also valuable because the leaders in the Kingdom make it a point to keep their doors and minds and hearts open to the public and also to attend the Majlis of citizens. In the past few Ramadan days, we have seen the Deputy King visiting the Majlises of some prominent citizens and meet people and listen to their ideas and concerns.
It is this engagement with the public that strengthen our Bahraini community and build close ties. It is a time -honoured tradition which shapes the Bahraini experience of citizenship. After all, how many times have we heard of leaders of even most democratic countries visiting citizens’ homes to greet them on special occasions and listening to the public? In a close-knit community like Bahrain, our Deputy King has highlighted the efforts of Bahraini citizens in meeting challenges and staying united.
This reflects the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa who underscores the role of citizens in Bahrain’s progress and how our unity is our strength. The Holy Month is a time for reflection and for building our network of friendship and unity.
These are what will give us a valuable anchor in times of difficulty. They help us to forge our own unique experience of democratic values in which our ancient tribal community heritage takes centre-stage and is guided by the National Action Charter and the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
