Shaikha Hayat named IOC panel member

Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member and chairwoman of women’s sport committee Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa was appointed new member of the International Olympic Committee’s Women in Sport Commission.

Shaikha Hayat, who had been a member of the IOC Athletes Entourage Commission for two consecutive terms, has now been named the newest member of the Women in Sport Commission, which considers the expertise, gender balance and continental representation of the member.

The role of the Women in Sport Commission is to advise the IOC Session, the IOC Executive Board and the IOC President on the development and implementation of the IOC women and sport policy and to promote equal opportunities for girls and women to participate in, and benefit from sport and physical activity.

Shaikha Hayat joined 32 other members who make up the new panel for the next term, with Lydia Nsekera of Burundi heading the commission as chairwoman, while Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein of Jordan is the vice-chairman.

BOC secretary general Mohammed Al Nusuf, meanwhile, has extended his congratulations to Shaikha Hayat on her appointment, which he attributed to the efforts of BOC l, led by Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in supporting I’m on women’s sports and empowering women in the administrative field, and claim international posts.
