Court upholds man’s life sentence

A carpenter has had a murder conviction against him upheld by the Supreme Court of Appeal yesterday. The Asian national, 37, was convicted for killing his employer’s brother using a chisel in broad daylight in Aali back in 2016.

The First High Criminal Courts sentenced him to life in prison for the murder of Ali Mahdi Al Samaheeji, 65, and stabbing two others using a chisel. The man appealed against the verdict, but the court rejected his request, citing his confessions to the crime during interrogation.

The incident took place on 16 November 2016. Court files say the suspect committed the crime in less than a month after arriving in Bahrain and securing a job as a carpenter in a local workshop in Aali. He, however, was not happy with his stay here and wanted to return to his homeland. On the day of the incident, the suspect told the owner’s brother that he wishes to discontinue his work.
