Govt schools are special

Bahrain recorded an encouraging five-fold increase in the number of public schools successfully integrating autistic students. According to the Ministry of education statistics, there are now 16 schools in the Kingdom that had integrated special needs student, against three in 2010. While there were 11 students on the roll call in 2010, that number also zoomed to 109 students this year. The Ministry further revealed that 84 public schools will be capable of integrating special needs students by the beginning of the next academic year.  

In a related discussion during a Ramadan Majilis in Riffa, Education Minister, Dr Majid Al Nuaimi, said that the ministry provides prime importance for integrating special needs students in government schools. Dr Al Nuaimi revealed the Ministry also has specific plans to expand the number of such schools in the Kingdom.

Talking to an audience, including Shura Council members,  MPs, government officials and citizens, during the Majlis session, the Minister said, “Bahrain has seen a rapid increase in the number of integrated  schools over the years.” 

“Although we have had many challenges in proving this scheme right, we will continue to keep encouraging special needs children. The Ministry is keen to expand the integration of schools for special needs children,” he said. 

He further said the Employment of Technology in the Disability Learning Programme that the ministry has been running is a success so far.
