Cycling for a great cause
Participants came out in large numbers yesterday for a cycling event organized by the Indian Embassy here to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The event, under the theme ‘promoting awareness about air pollution’, was held from Bahrain Fort to Indian Embassy.
The celebrations also coincided with the World Environment Day celebrated every year on the 5th of June. It is the United Nation’s principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues.
“It is important to educate the younger population about the importance of using renewal energy, not only for their knowledge but also to create an example for their friends and family members,” Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha told Tribune on the sidelines of the event.
