Delaying closing argument: Court fines lawyer BD50

The High Criminal Court fined a lawyer yesterday for failing to present his closing argument on time. The lawyer was ordered to pay a fine of BD50 while hearing a robbery case. It’s worth noting that the lawyer was one of four assigned by the High Criminal Court to defend the accused. The court assigns a lawyer for any defendant in the event he/she can’t afford to hire one.

In this case, the suspects three brothers and two relatives- are accused of stealing valuables from three houses. The suspects are accused of stealing jewellery worth BD50,000. The five accused includes a woman, who helped in hiding the stolen jewellery. The other four, court files say, raided three houses at different times.

According to case files, the group took BD15,000 worth valuable from the first house, jewellery worth BD25,000 from the second house and valuable worth BD10,000 from the third property. Investigations uncovered the identity of the first defendant, who was previously involved in similar cases.
