Embezzlement: Court upholds verdict
The Court of Cassation yesterday rejected the appeal of a government employee convicted of embezzlement and fraud, said Muharraq Governorate Chief Prosecutor Ahmed Al Ramadan. The appellant charged with forging an official document and using it for embezzlement and fraud was sentenced to three years imprisonment by the criminal court.
Ahmed Al Ramadan, in a statement, said the appellant forged official documents for an individual in return for a certain amount. The suspect pretended that he had the authority to issue export licenses. Public Prosecution referred the case to the Criminal Court on account of witness testimonies and other evidence.
An expert was assigned to inspect the documents, which was proved to be forged. Further investigation proved the suspect’s role in forgery, with police recovering several forged documents from his possession.
