Eid tragedy as LPG leak kills three

In a tragic incident, three of a family died of asphyxiation in Sitra yesterday morning after inhaling gas from a leaking LPG cylinder. They said two others are admitted to Salmaniya Medical Complex. The women, aged between 30 and 48, were busy preparing their Eid lunch when the tragedy struck.

Ministry of Interior in a tweet confirmed the incident. “Three women aged 30 to 48 died and two other admitted to the hospital of suffocation because of gas leakage at a house in Sitra,” the tweet reads. An investigation is ongoing. “Necessary legal procedures are being taken,” the ministry said.

The incident came to light when one of the women’s son spotted them fighting for their lives in the kitchen. On detecting a strong smell of leaking LPG gas, the boy immediately alerted others. The women were rushed to a nearby clinic but were declared dead. Residents in the area told Tribune the incident occurred at around 8:00 am. They said the kitchen being airtight the leaked gas soon engulfed the room.
