Defunct air-conditioners to be repaired on war-footing

Efforts are on to swiftly carry out the repair of defunct air-conditioners at the Manama Central Market, according to Capital Municipal Council sources.

The issue had become a cause of concern for meat traders at the market after the air-conditioning failure led to meat spoilage. Sources said traders had launched many complaints with the council after the air-conditioning issue arose since the beginning of April.

“The traders say it got really worse during the recent weeks,” they said. “The traders claim that a good number of air-conditioners at the market are defunct, which is leading to meat spoilage, in turn harming their business.” Speaking to Tribune, some traders at the market said that they had to dispose of rotten meat in large quantities as a result of the air-conditioning failure. “We have suffered huge losses.”

Meanwhile, Capital Municipal Council’s Director-General Shawqiya Humaidan said that a contractor has already been assigned to address the issue. “We have assigned a team of specialists to look into the matter and carry out maintenance works to ensure that all air-conditioners inside the market are working efficiently,” the official pointed out.
