Action sought against unhygienic bakeries, sweet factories

Authorities have been urged to act against unhygienic bakeries and sweet factories located within the Capital Governorate. The call comes in light of sources, who don’t want to be named, alerting Tribune about a bakery kitchen in Manama replete with unhygienic practices and conditions. The kitchen used to make sweet edibles has been operating for years, it was alleged. According to sources, the kitchen is used to make Arabic and Indian edibles for a bakery in Manama.

“The place is very unhygienic and filthy, they have been operating this way for years now. A resident has made a complaint to the concerned ministries about the matter,” one of the sources told Tribune.

A resident in the locality where the bakery kitchen is located said he got a chance to go inside the kitchen and found rats ruling there. “As soon as I went inside the kitchen I saw rats running around. The place was worse than I thought, I have complained about it with the authorities. I expect them to take action,” he said.  “In this area, there are many shops that have similar conditions and do not adhere to any standards of hygiene.
