Focus on rights strides

The Assistant Foreign Minister, Abdulla Al Doseri, chaired the 23rd meeting of High Co-ordination Committee for Human Rights, in the presence of committee members, representatives of government ministries and official institutions.

The Assistant Foreign Minister affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to continuously protect human rights through the review and development of legal frameworks, government programs, policies and actions that serve the progress of human dignity and the goals of sustainable development. Mr Al Doseri also highlighted the application of supreme laws and principles that contribute to the achievement of justice, security and well-being for all in a democratic society in which everyone enjoys civil and political rights, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

The meeting also stressed the reform approach established by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which ensures the preservation of human rights as a basis for building, progress and eliminating intolerance and terrorism. The Committee discussed a number of topics, which focused on supporting and developing human rights work, such as the preliminary draft of the National Plan for Human Rights. It also reviewed the Kingdom’s national reports in accordance with its accession to international human rights laws. The Supreme Co-ordination Committee for Human Rights was formed by Decree No (50) for the year 2012 issued by His Royal Highness the Prime Minister, and was restructured by Decree No (14) of 2014 and Decree No 31 of 2017.

The Committee is concerned with various issues related to the development and promotion of human rights, including the establishment of a co-ordination mechanism to ensure the best policies for dealing with human rights issues and the preparation of a national human rights plan at the government level, as well as co-operating with international human rights organisations to achieve the aspired goals.
