Iran’s intervention threat to region
Bahrain yesterday affirmed its strong resolve to continue fighting terrorism and drying up its sources while raising concerns about Iran’s growing interventions in the region. “By supporting Hezbollah, the Houthis and other terrorist groups, Iran aims to undermine the region’s security and stability,” said Dr Nasser Al Balushi, the Political and Economic Affairs Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
He was addressing a meeting of the Middle East Strategic Alliance (MESA) Task Force on Counter-Terrorism, in Washington as part of a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) delegation. Dr Al Balushi told the conference that it is “important to create a unified list of terrorist groups and developing mechanisms to exchange information and enhance border security.”
He also pointed out the need to benefit from the Prince Mohammed Bin Nayef Centre for Counselling and Care in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and UAE Sawab Centre in the fight against Extremist thought and Ideology. The meeting comes in line with efforts to establish a strategic alliance in the Middle East to confront Iran’s interventions in the region and its support of terrorist groups.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Dr Nasser and MoFA Director of the Americas and Pacific Affairs Directorate, Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, met Acting Undersecretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, Nathan A. Sales, in the presence of the Coordinator of Counterterrorism Affairs at the US Department of State.
