Yogic trip to inner peace

Hundreds took part in a series of events that were held yesterday to mark the International Day of Yoga. The Indian Embassy along with the Ministry of Youth and Sport organised the ‘Yogafest21’ at Khalifa Sports City Stadium, which saw active participation from the part of yoga enthusiasts.

A lecture demonstration was also held that highlighted how practising yoga could help fight stress and find peace. India Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha, other embassy staff, senior government officials, dignitaries and prominent expatriate community members attended the event, which was termed a big success.

Speaking to Tribune, Ramesh Patidar, Director of Sun Middle East Contracting Company, who attended the event, said he was overwhelmed to see the spirit of yoga enthusiasts, who made the day “very much special”. “Yoga has a unique capability to mould one’s behaviour, awakens one's potentials, perfect his attitudes and perception, sets standards of social, emotional, mental and intellectual life, brings changes in the outer and internal world.

“Yoga is practised not only to achieve perfect health but also to achieve professional, personal, social and spiritual excellence in life,” he added. Echoing a similar view, another event attendee Rakesh Sharma, the Chairman of Palace Electronics, said: “The essence of humanity is based on peace. Humility, gratitude, forgiveness, compassion, and honesty are virtuous qualities of a peaceful and harmonious life. Yoga is the best way to cultivate these qualities that can take mankind forward.”

Another event ‘Yogostav19’ was organised by a group of community organisations at Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Park (Al Hidd Garden).
