Asian convict who gouged colleague’s eye, loses plea
The High Appeals Court rejected the appeal filed by an Asian man convicted of gouging his colleague’s eye. The defendant was sentenced to five years behind bars as a medical report revealed that the victim suffered a visual disability in the attack.
According to court files, the pair engaged in a physical brawl following an altercation at the construction site, where they were tasked to work. “The fight broke out after an argument. We went to the second floor of the under-construction building and he physically attacked me with his hand. He later grabbed a cutter and hit my eye,” the victim told prosecutors.
The latter was rushed to Salmaniya Medical Complex and he underwent surgery. The medical report pointed out that the defendant had suffered a 35 per cent visual disability.
“I didn’t mean to cause any harm to him. It happened during an altercation and I feel bad about it,” the defendant stressed to prosecutors.
The defendant will be deported once he completes his jail time
