Brothers lose appeals in murder case

The High Appeals Court has upheld the sentences issued against two brothers convicted of robbing and murdering an elderly man. According to court files, the 58-year-old man’s body was spotted in an abandoned place and a used injection syringe was found near the body.  It was initially thought that the man died owing to a drug overdose but such a theory was refuted after detectives saw bruises in his head, the Prosecutors said.

“Therefore, investigations were launched into a possible murder case. “It turned out that the defendants consumed heroine along with the victim and when he lost his conscious, they beat him in an effort to rob his belongings,” they added.   Prosecutors said that it wasn’t the first time for them to attack other drug dealers in an effort to rob them.

“When we realised he was under the influence of drugs, we decided to rob him,” the first defendant told prosecutors. “We hit him with a stone on his head. And then we stole his wallet, mobile and five heroine cigarettes,” he added.

The duo admitted to robbing their victim but denied murdering him. However, they were sentenced to 15 years behind bars each.
