Boosting healthcare investment

The National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) will open a special office in Bahrain aimed at attracting investment in the Kingdom’s healthcare sector. “We want to ensure that we aid the development and facilitate and attract investment, leading to the development of the medical tourism sector of the country,” said NHRA CEO Dr Mariam Al-Jalahma announcing the move.

Bahrain’s healthcare sector, Dr Al Jalahma said, is witnessing a great development and “we hope to play a major role in promoting investment and enabling medical tourism to the country.” Bahrain has already introduced many laws to encourage such investment, Dr Al Jalahma added.

Besides opening the investment office,  NHRA also plans to create a new website focusing on Bahrain’s healthcare landscape. Procedures for investing, as well as laws and legislation governing the sector, will be listed on the webpage. Statistics, including names of healthcare facilities in each location, the type of facilities etc, will also be found on the webpage.

The latest move is in addition to the electronic service launched for the medical professionals in October by the Information and eGovernment Authority in collaboration with the NHRA. The service enables healthcare professionals to apply for a new license, renew licenses or avail other services that were previously available only by visiting the NHRA branch.
