Bahrain condemns Al-Arish terrorist attack

Bahrain yesterday condemned in strongest terms the terrorist attack targeting police outposts in Al-Arish in North Sinai, Egypt, and resulted in the death of police officers.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its deep condolences to the families of the victims. The statement affirmed Bahrain’s firm stance in supporting Egypt and its efforts in combating violence and terrorism, as well as its endeavours to establish peace and security.

Seven police officers have been killed in a jihadist attack in restive North Sinai, Egypt’s interior ministry said Wednesday. The attack near the regional capital El-Arish targeted an “assembly centre” for police, according to the ministry. Four assailants died “during clashes” following the attack, one when he detonated an explosives belt, it said.

Egypt is currently on high alert as it hosts the Africa Cup of Nations, although none of the games is taking place in Sinai. A month before the tournament, a tourist bus was hit by a roadside bomb near pyramids of Giza.
