Speaker stresses Kingdom’s rich women empowerment experience

Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Fawzia Zainal, has stressed that Bahrain boasts a rich experience in the field of women advancement and sustainable development, particularly when it comes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on gender equality. In her speech during the closing session of the Women Political Leaders Summit (WPL 2019), Ms Zainal expressed pride in being the first speaker of the elected Representatives Council in Bahrain, which, she said, is a real proof of the high decision-making positions reached by Bahraini women.

The success of the Kingdom’s experience has contributed to moving from the women empowerment phase to the women advancement phase, which entitled Bahrain to be a role model in the field, she said. The speaker asserted that the Bahraini women’s strides and landmark achievements are the fruitful outcome of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s support, and the sound directives of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women.

“The leadership’s efforts have made Bahrain a role model in the field of women advancement. The women in the country have access to full rights following the successful implementation of the sustainable development strategic plans.” She highlighted the launch of the Princess Sabeeka Global Award for Women’s Empowerment at the UN headquarters in March 2019, noting that the award reflects Bahrain’s serious desire to carry on its women advancement efforts.
