St Chris students shine at World Scholar’s Cup
The World Scholar’s Cup Global Round was held in Beijing last week. Of 87 St Christopher’s School students, 66 qualified for the Tournament of Champions in November (hosted by Yale University) by being placed in the top third of teams. Seven St Christopher’s students were placed in the top 100 Junior competitors. Sam Catchpole was the 4th placed student individually out of over 2000 students in the Junior Division.
His team, including Muskaan Iyer and Christina Schrage were placed 5th overall. The Junior team of Faris Jafar, Sameer Dawani and Nyle Khan were 18th overall. And numerous other trophies and medals were won in the 4 competitions. With 3500 students from 30+ countries, this was the largest of the six 2019 Global Rounds. Teams of 3 compete in 4 competitions (Team Debate, Collaborative Writing, the Scholar’s Bowl and the Scholar’s Challenge).
There were hundreds of teams in each age category. St Christopher’s School also represented the Kingdom of Bahrain in the Cultural Fair, with a stand featuring the flag and national dress of Bahrain. Students also offered dates and sweet treats. Leya Himani carried the flag of Bahrain at the Closing Ceremony. Students were also able to visit the iconic sites of the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City whilst in Beijing.
