US Independence Day to be marked
The United States of America as well as its citizens and embassies across the world celebrates the country’s independence day today. Highlighting the vital components of the national identity of many Americans, the day brings with it a whole host of traditions for citizens of the country.
It was on that day that Continental Congress decreed that the American colonies - of which there were then thirteen - were no longer the subjects of the British monarchy (then King George III of the United Kingdom) and were free, independent, but united states. The vote for independence was won on July 2, 1776, but was not publicly declared until July 4.
Independence Day is therefore a recognition of the birth of the nation of the United States of America. In a statement issued to press, US Ambassador Justin Siberell said: “On this 243rd anniversary of the independence of the United States of America, we take time to reflect on our nation’s history and celebrate the close partnerships we enjoy throughout the world.
Americans greatly value our warm friendship with Bahrain, and we hope you will join us on this special day in celebrating the red, white, and blue. Happy 4th of July!”
