Bahrain, Egypt sign MoU on environment protection
Personal Representative to HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and Egypt’s Minister of Environment, Dr Yasmine Fouad, yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding on environmental protection, climate affairs and nature conservation.
The SCE Vice-President, Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa; Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa; SCE Executive Director Dr. Mohammed Mubarak Bin Daina and Egyptian Ambassador to Bahrain, Suha Ibrahim Mohammed Rifaat, attended the signing ceremony. The MoU complements the historical and distinguished bilateral relations highlighted by integration and co-operation between the two countries in various fields, and the implementation of the MoU signed between the SCE and Egyptian Ministry of Environment in Cairo in 2007.
The SCE President expressed delight in signing the MoU, which covers many areas, including environment conservation, air and water pollution control, biodiversity protection, waste management, climate change and the promotion of sustainable development goals. He pointed out the royal interest in economic, environment areas related to sustainable development, which is reflected in hosting forums and activities to accentuate Bahrain’s global standing and highlight its commitment to environmental conventions.
He added the MoU would allow the two countries to establish co-ordination in international environment forums in addition to the exchange of expertise between the two sides for the protection of environment.
The Egyptian Environment Minister underlined the longstanding bilateral relations, praising Bahrain’s role in the environment field at regional and global levels, and the development and progress seen at various levels.
Under the MoU an executive programme for the years 2019-2020 will be established, which aimed at implementing environment programmes and activities to link them to the sustainable development goals.
