Two Asian convicts get jail for peddling ‘Yafa’ tablets

The First High Criminal Court on Thursday announced its verdict in a case involving two Asian men, who are accused of selling and consuming narcotic pills known as “Yafa”.

The court sentenced one of the men to five years imprisonment and fined him BD3,000 for peddling drugs, while the second man received a six months sentence and was fined BD100 for drug consumption. The court also ordered to permanently deport both men once they complete their sentences.

Court files showed that the Anti-narcotics Directorate within the Interior Ministry received a tip-off on one of the defendants, who was suspected of selling drugs. An undercover cop approached the suspected dealer and agreed to buy drugs from him for BD300. A warrant from the Public Prosecution was issued to search the suspect at the time of the delivery of the drugs.

The suspect showed up at their meeting point in Gudaibiya, along with the second defendant, who was high on drugs.
