Fake cosmetics warning issued in UAE

Abu Dhabi Municipality has seized 366 boxes of counterfeit cosmetic products from different commercial outlets. The civic body said it identified the dodgy products during recent inspection campaigns to crack down on shops known to sell fakes. The confiscated items were mostly cosmetics and whitening and medical creams.

Some of the items bore the labels of well-known brands. Dr. Saeed Mohammed Qarwash Al Romaithi, director of the department of public health at the municipality, highlighted the need for caution when visiting sellers that offer such harmful items. He said they could trigger skin allergies and cause other medical complications.

“Residents should always do some research and take a pragmatic approach when they buy cosmetic products,” said Al Romaithi. “Avoid going for cheaper things. People should bear in mind that if something is really cheap, it’s likely to be fake and could potentially be harmful.”
