Turkmenistan ties in focus

The second political consultations meeting between the Kingdom and Turkmenistan was held in Ashgabat yesterday, under the chairmanship of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and the Turkmenistan Deputy Foreign Minister.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla extended his appreciation and gratitude for the Government of Turkmenistan for hosting the second political consultations meeting, stressing that the Kingdom of Bahrain is keen on enhancing its bilateral relations with Turkmenistan.  The two sides reviewed areas of bilateral co-operation and ways of enhancing it in various fields.

They also exchanged different views and perspectives on the current events at the regional and international levels as well as combating extremism and terrorism. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla stressed the importance of this meeting, in light of the high-level visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Turkmenistan in March 2019, which boosted the relations between the two countries. Nine agreements of co-operation were signed between both countries in various fields including banking, tourism, education, e-gov, transport, culture, and mutual exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and private passports.

The International Affairs Undersecretary added that he was certain that the Kingdom, under the leadership of HM the King, and the Republic of Turkmenistan, under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, were laying the groundwork for a comprehensive, constructive and long-term strategic partnership.

He also expressed his appreciation of the outcomes of the first political consultation meeting, hosted by the Kingdom in July last year, noting that the Kingdom was among the first countries to send a delegation to visit Turkmenistan after it gained independence in 1991.
