Global honours come calling on artist couple
An artist-couple is on top of the world after winning honours at renowned street art festivals of Europe and the US. The couple - Limesh Augustine and Jincy Babu - are residents of the Kingdom and hold the Guinness Record for the largest 3D anamorphic painting. They came with flying colours after taking part in Sarasota International Chalk Festival, Florida, and Blumberg International Street Art Festival. Speaking to Tribune, the couple said: “For the Sarasota International Chalk Festival, we created a 3D interactive painting sized 24 feet by 17 feet.
“As this festival was a unique opportunity and we wanted to showcase something different with a valuable message, we chose the theme “Let’s play Farming”. “There are toys which inspire kids to be doctors, pilots, sailors etc. But we thought toys with agriculture perspective will help them love nature more and we may have great farmers in the future for a better world. “We created this painting with fun interaction with a message for the viewers.” The couple came first at the Blumberg International Street Art Festival. “This was a hattrick victory for us.
We had won the first prize in the same festival in 2017 and 2018. Our main painting sized 20 feet by 15 feet was titled ‘Schlange argere dich nicth’, which means ‘Snake don’t argue with you’. “It was a combination of Snake and Ladder game and the German version of Ludo “Mensch argere dich nicth” game. Our theme focus on the importance of bringing back board games to the family instead of mobile games which can improve family bonding and togetherness. “Our second painting sized 17 feet by 6 feet was for kids to play with a baby dragon waiter who serves them a jelly.”
Mr Limnesh is an IT Engineer by profession and has been working as Project Manager for GBM, Bahrain. He has undergone training under famous artists V B Venu and Prof C S Jayaram in Realistic, Abstract and Knife works. Ms Jincy is a street artist, muralist and an organiser, who has expertise in pavement art forms both 2D And 3D. The couple said they are more interested in experiments in 3D anamorphic paintings, speed, trenticular and reperspective paintings.
“We love the use of technological ingenuity and the application of it in painting projects.” The couple has been participating in Street Art Festivals around the world. They have represented Bahrain and India in festivals in the US, Italy, France, Germany and Holland and have won many prizes across the globe.
