NIAD to hold second Palm Tree Festival
The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) will organise the second edition of the “Palm Tree Festival” at the Farmer’s Market in Hoorat Aali on July 25-27. The three-day cultural heritage event, held in co-operation with the Agricultural and Marine Resources Undersecretariat at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning and the Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) group, will attract Bahraini farmers, agricultural companies, craftsmen and productive families.
The festival aims to encourage and support the local production of all palm tree products, including the various types of dates known for their quality and taste in Bahrain and the region. It also aims to stimulate investment in the sector, and provide opportunity to local farmers to promote their products to the public.
The festival will feature a line-up of entertaining and cultural activities with the participation of a group of Bahraini farmers, companies, productive families and handicraftsmen exhibiting and selling products extracted from the palm trees. The festival will include a handicrafts exhibition to highlight the Bahraini traditional crafts and document the lifestyle of ancestors, according to organisers.
There will also be a children’s corner focusing on educational and cultural workshops, in addition to contests and prizes, they added. The traditional “Heya Beya” will be distributed among young boys and girls in addition to many other surprises. The festival will be open free of charge to the public on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 9 pm.
