Businessman held for travelling using staff’s passport
An Arab businessman, in his late fifties, attempted to run away from Bahrain using one of his employees’ passport, the Daily Tribune has learnt. However, the customs officers nabbed him after receiving a tip-off. According to court files, the businessman was wanted in a criminal case and therefore he decided to flee the Kingdom and one of his employees advised him to book a ticket under the name of the other employee.
The defendant justified his act by claiming that his father was very sick back home, suffering from an advanced stage of cancer. “I knew that there is a travel ban imposed on me and that I couldn’t leave Bahrain. My father is sick and I need to see him before he dies. I spoke with someone and that person devised this plan for me. “He bought the tickets for me and ushered me inside the airport.
I met a person, who was introduced to me as a representative from an airline company. He (the latter) told me that everything was fine,” the 57-year-old businessman said. However, he was caught in the terminal while trying to board the plane. The employee who sketched the plan was arrested too and both men were charged with forgery. The trial of the man will begin on August 19, 2019, while he will remain in detention, as confirmed by the High Criminal Court.
