Infra work ‘on track’

The Cabinet chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday reviewed development projects put out to tender in the roads, construction and sanitation sectors. This was in line with the government’s keenness to provide high-quality infrastructure to support the Kingdom’s present and future sustainable economic growth requirements.

Figures showed that a total of 45 projects in the three sectors, worth BD 58 million, had been put out to tender since the beginning of this year, including 23 tenders launched in the second quarter at a cost of BD 23m. Meanwhile, 46 tenders, worth approximately BD76m, has been awarded since the beginning of 2019, including 20 in the second quarter, at a cost of BD66m.

The projects included many the expansion and development of the Shaikh Zayed Avenue, the completion of the Muharraq Ring Road, from Diyar Al Muharraq to Busaiteen, and the development of the sanitation network. The session was also informed, through a memorandum presented by the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, about the projects that are currently implemented, including 31 in the roads sector. 

HRH the Premier was informed about the requirements regarding the housing, health, youth, infrastructure and facilities projects and services across villages. In this regard, the Prime Minister instructed the Housing Ministry to co-operate with the relevant government departments and submit proposals on allocating land lots at villages’ boundaries to absorb the housing needs of the local citizens, a post-session statement by the Cabinet Secretary-General, Dr Yasser Al Nasser, said.
