Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie, participated in the UN Security Council  (UNSC) open discussion session on “the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian cause”. The ambassador explained that the “Peace for Prosperity” workshop was held in the Kingdom last month with the participation of several leaders of governments, civil society organisations and the business sector of the region and the world, and is considered a part of the efforts and keenness of the Kingdom to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people in development and prosperity and support the Palestinian economy.

He added that the workshop has succeeded in achieving its objectives to encourage and stimulate investment in the State of Palestine to improve its economy. He also noted that the Kingdom appreciates the great efforts of the United States of America to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

The ambassador stressed the importance of the international community to play a greater role in implementing its decisions to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East and to create positive conditions that offer more opportunities for the success of political settlements, restoration of the capacity of States to safeguard their sovereignty, security, independence and territorial integrity.

He condemned the Israeli forces’ demolition of several Palestinian homes in the town of Sur Baher in occupied Jerusalem. The ambassador affirmed that the establishment of a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region will only be achieved through the settlement of the Palestinian issue and giving the Palestinian people their legitimate rights to have an independent state on the borders of 4 June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the Arab peace initiative, and in accordance with the two-state solution and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

He pointed out that achieving international peace and security requires the international community to unite and work to develop innovative mechanisms to meet the existing and emerging challenges. He noted that the Kingdom is committed to work with the international community to settle disputes peacefully to achieve security and stability in the region and the world.
