Geospatial Information Governance committee discusses major projects

The National Committee for Geospatial Information Governance conducted its fifth meeting to discuss the upcoming projects and recent developments. The meeting was chaired by Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) Chief Executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed.

During the meeting, the Committee was briefed by its working groups on 24 initiatives aimed at developing the geospatial information sector in the Kingdom. Briefs highlighted how to build the capacity of government entities, re-engineering some of the procedures and initiatives of spatial data, policies, standards and projects launched by the committee in various fields.

Among the most important of the initiatives were a review of government institutional licensing agreements; an enhancement of geospatial data; the issuing of standards and specifications for the surveying and monitoring of service infrastructure sites; improvements to the land survey database; the reengineering of procedures; the development of technical solutions to solve problems being faced by stakeholders; the creation of a timeline for transitioning to cloud-based systems; and capacity building and development of government agency staff through training and awareness programmes.

The National Committee for Geospatial Information Governance was formed pursuant to Resolution No 15 of 2017, issued by His Royal Highness, the Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. It is responsible for proposing national strategic policies and plans for the development of the geospatial information sector; laying down its standards and specifications; dividing responsibilities among its stakeholders; and co-ordinating and gathering information with the goal of ensuring quality, accuracy, the use of modern technologies, and the prevention of duplication.
