Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Causeway revamp work completed

Road Projects and Maintenance Director at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Sayed Bader Alawi, stated that the ministry has finished routine maintenance of the project of revamping Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Causeway from the sea bridge until the interjection from Dry Dock Highway.

The lanes extend 15-km for both ways, and the total cost is estimated to be 330,000BD. Mr Alawi added that the project is part of the ministry’s masterplan of protecting assets and roads. “A technical update is needed to understand the structural and functional status of roads.”

“The road is built with globally-approved engineering protocols to avoid further deterioration of its condition, revamping again with very high costs, which will see the construction time doubled.” The Roads Projects and Maintenance Director said that the revamping efforts done will help extend the road’s lifespan to its planned age.

“If this is not maintained, it will affect the safety and the strength of the layers, and it will then be much more difficult to handle, which might call for a complete re-work of the road at very high costs,” the official said. The project was carried out by Nass Asphalt. The ministry thanked all citizens for their co-operation and adherence to the traffic signs throughout the project.

Mr Alawi said that these projects show the ministry’s determination to ensure that the roads and avenues of the Kingdom get the proper care and attention, in order to increase safety and the functional performance of the roads network to ensure the safety and comfort of citizens.
