Focus on UN ties

Chaired by Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Co-ordination and Follow-up Committee between the Kingdom and the United Nations’ agencies held its fourth meeting yesterday. The meeting comes within the framework of the Kingdom’s strategic partnership with the agencies of the United Nations. It reviewed and followed up the new joint ventures and their implementation in line with government plans, the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. 

During the meeting, Dr Shaikh Abdulla praised the continuous development of co-operation between the Kingdom and the UN, noting that their partnership has become a model to achieve national and sustainable development goals. The Undersecretary explained that the Coordination and Follow-up Committee between the two sides has achieved its objectives, which include organising and governing the partnership with the UN agencies and programmes.

“It comes within the framework of enhancing positive co-operation and consolidating commitment to implementing the initiatives of the government’s financial balance programme and other joint projects.” He affirmed the committee’s keenness to strengthen institutional capabilities and investing in the human element for the benefit of all citizens. He assured that the Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, continue to achieve its advanced developmental goals, evident in the international reports and indicators on the Kingdom.

The Undersecretary noted his recent visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and his meetings with officials and leaders of the organisation, which resulted in constructive understanding to maximise joint co-operation.

The framework of the strategic partnership between the two sides has received great attention and international praise as it strengthens capacity-building programs and develops innovative investment in national capacities. He also affirmed that the meetings of the committee affirms the keenness of both the Kingdom and the United Nations to activate the strategic partnership. He added that this partnership provides the best practices in developing initiatives and implementing projects.
