Water garden project phase two ‘on track for completion’
Thirty per cent of the second phase development of water garden project has been completed, it emerged. The project, initiated by the Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry, aims to renovate the historic water garden. It has been divided into two phases. The first phase of the project was completed as per the schedule, according to ministry sources.
Phase One in which BD300,000 was allocated included rebuilding the fence, guard room and electricity station room. It was completed about a year ago. The second phase work is expected to continue throughout the year and may only get over by next year, according to the ministry. A ministry official said that the park is expected to contain a large variety of plant species, flowers, herbs, shrubs, trees etc.
Wooden benches with shading, lighting, flooring are also being made as part of the project, he pointed out. “The park will be beautified, with wooden benches and attractive lighting. “It is aimed to preserve some of the district features of the park, which makes it unique while also modernising it in many aspects,” the official stated. The water garden project in the Capital is all set to be a major tourist attraction, according to Manama Municipality.
“With the new additions, restaurants will be added by allocating a space of 94,615 square-meters, followed by an entertainment area, playground areas for kids and a fully-equipped car-parking facility, which will accommodate almost 230 cars,” a municipality official said.
“The budget allocated for the renovation and facelift of the water garden is BD3.3 million, wherein the first phase is completed. “So far, with the completion of the first phase, we have spent BD296,000 mainly for the demolition and rebuilding the entire boundary wall of the water park,” a municipal source told Tribune in June last year.
