BRCS confirms ties with ‘Shahbat Amal’

The General Secretary of Bahrain Red Crescent Society, Dr Fawzi Amin held a meeting with ‘Sahabat Amal Team’ to discuss the mechanisms of building a volunteer medical team that includes students and graduates of medicine. The team’s primary mission will be to provide medical, health, relief and humanitarian assistance to the needy around the world.

Dr Amin explained that BRCS seeks to form an integrated medical team with sufficient knowledge of the most important precautions to be taken in providing medical and health services for refugees and victims of conflicts around the world. He pointed out that the need for this service increases with the increasing frequency of conflicts and natural and environmental disasters in the region and the world.

During the meeting, Dr Amin noted the society’s plan to launch a medical project for the early detection of anaemia, a disease that affects the blood. “Some of those who are diagnosed with disease are not aware of it. Thus the Red Crescent seeks to launch this project through developing mechanisms and providing latest devices to detect the disease without the need for injections to avoid the possibility of transmission of diseases and viruses,” said Dr Amin.

He pointed out that the launch of this ambitious project in Bahrain comes after a similar project set up by the BRCS in Sri Lanka. “Sahabat Amal team” is a voluntary team that was founded in 2017 by a group of students from the Faculty of Medicine at the Arabian Gulf University, who have a passion for giving and helping others.

The team aims to instil the concept of volunteerism and philanthropy initiatives in various medical, humanitarian and awareness-raising fields. The team also offers the necessary health care, financial aid, and moral support to individuals and poor and damaged communities.
